In the United States, residential battery storage saw a remarkable 64% increase in 2024 compared to the previous year, outpacing growth in commercial and utility-scale installations. This surge, reported by Wood Mackenzie and the American Clean Power Association, highlights a growing trend toward energy independence among homeowners.
Currently, around half a million homes are equipped with these battery systems, collectively storing about 3,028 megawatt-hours of electricity. This shift toward decentralized energy solutions is becoming a cornerstone of building resilience at the household level, enabling homeowners to secure their energy needs while reducing dependence on the grid.
Many homeowners are increasingly turning to on-site battery storage paired with rooftop solar systems to maintain energy security. Even when connected to the utility grid, these systems provide a reliable backup during outages and help mitigate the impact of rising utility rates and Time-of-Use (TOU) charges during peak hours.
This trend reflects a broader movement towards sustainable and resilient energy solutions, one home at a time.
